Resting is not earned

A few months ago, I was listening to an audio book on burnout. It was extremely interesting, and the statistics shocked me. The main take from this book, if we rest for 42% of the time we will ultimately be more productive, creative, and happier. Now when I say resting, I do not mean spend all of this time in bed or your sofa! Yes, physical rest is important , but we are also talking about brain rest, relaxing activities - such as reading , listening to music , a podcast, a gentle walk, slowly cooking a meal for the enjoyment of it, connecting with friends or watching a film you enjoy.
Since I have listened to this book my life has changed immensely. I used to crash every day at around 2 pm , that no longer happens anymore. I will take time out between tasks as that really works for me and ultimately I will end up getting more done. One of the biggest changes is the lack of guilt I feel ( as in absolutely none! ) as I am doing whats best for my health , and if my children see me managing my time like this GREAT as they will see a mum who is looking after herself and not burning herself down to the ground.
Our culture is feeding us a lie that we must be more productive, we should be at the bottom of the list ( as that makes us a good person ), look a certain way and stay as small as we possibly can. I reject this completely. I will be completely myself, take regular breaks, take up space and voice my opinion because I deserve that and I deserve to treat myself with kindness and compassion .
So do you :)
Much love,
Andrea
